Personal Essay: On Breath, Body & Business

As an entrepreneur & creative, feeling stuck is an all too familiar feeling. “Doing the work” but nothing is happening. Feeling frustrated (my Generator not self theme), tired but not exactly burnt out. You know the feeling. It usually arrives when I’ve gotten a little too far from my path & purpose.

These moments of stuckness or tension are normal. They aren’t punishment, the Universe doesn’t work like that. They come to remind us it’s time to drop in, return to the basics & inquire within.

Is it my Spirit that needs nourishment? Is my body asking for rest or reactivation? Are the foundations of my business there? Are they strong? Am I neglecting anything?

We’re designed to experience flow. That feeling of floating above whatever we’re creating. The subtle humming of the soul, confirming that we’re in the right place, at the right time with the right people. Faith & belief that we’re here for a reason.

Breath, Body & Business.

BREATH —

When I’m carrying all types of static in my energetic field, I’m not able to hear or be inspired by the right people. It is actually this realization that moved me to design Energy Fasting & Deep Sighs, to return back to the glory of the breath. Breath is actually how we eat, hear from our intuition & become inspired (filled with Spirit).

Our breath is a muscle that needs to be stretched, expanded & nurtured in order to cultivate safety within our body. Safe breathing fills your belly and relaxes your perineum. It’s how we discern what is correct or incorrect for us. It unclenches our jaw, lowers our shoulders, and opens our hips. Any time I feel stuck, I take a moment to notice my breath. Chances are how I find it is how I’ve been breathing for a while and it’s why tension, which has limited my thinking is present. Without breath, we forget. And when we forget, there is no creation, there is no Creator. So first, breathe.

BODY —

Next, I tune in with my body. I have a Closed Taste determination in Human Design. This means I’m incredibly picky, selective & particular. I have to be. If I allow my body to be surrounded by unhealthy conditioning, my strategy and authority will become my nemesis. I will fear making the decisions that actually support me in following my own pace & path.

When we can’t trust our decisions, it creates fear & doubt in the body. This fear and doubt turns into a kind of tension that negatively affects our breath. Stuckness is always trying to bring us back to the Spirit, back to the breath so that we can tune in with the messages that are trying to find us. When there’s tension in the body, our quality of thought diminishes. We feel exhausted, lethargic & a lack of vitality to take the next steps. Our body is the physical conduit that manifests the formlessness of our purpose into form.

Do not let people, old habits, or outdated rituals near you. Refine your relationships, foods & environments. Listen to your body. When it’s time to rest, it’s time to rest. Regardless of what your to-do list says. I’ve adopted a simple rest practice of silence for 25-30 minutes each day. Shavasana or Corpse Pose is one of the most healing positions for the mind, body & spirit connection. If it’s available to you, take it, even if it’s only for 5 minutes.

BUSINESS —

Finally, I tune in to my business. As a living breathing entity, I’m always checking in to make sure my business reflects my maturing energy, gifts & updated seasonal rhythms. I’ll inquire deeper into my business model, offers, audience, messaging, selling, operations & financial health.

Money likes to flow through portals of service but only when we’re providing something that we have experienced growth through ourselves. A truly aligned & successful business should be founded on our life, our experiences, and our wisdom. I’ve found trying to do anything other than that quickly brings up insecurities, resentment & burnout.

Business at its core essence is an equal exchange between consenting parties. Everything else we build around it is the bells and whistles that support its existence in the World. They have their place but can’t fix a broken foundation. Without understanding our own energy first, we can’t create an aligned offer that reflects our lived experience, and it’s this tension that makes us over promise, underdeliver, or any variation of the two.

An offshoot here is tending to my relationship with money instead of running from it. I’ve stopped saying I want to be ‘financially free’. I don’t ever want to be free from money or the experiences & expansion that being in relationship with money can bring. Yes, it can bring up some of our deepest shadows, but this is everything I signed up for when I chose entrepreneurship as my spiritual path. To learn and to see myself more clearly than I ever have. I am financially devoted to understanding how to make money, care for it, regenerate it & circulate it.

Now more than ever before, we’re actively becoming Creators of our reality. The Art of Daily Living is a continuous process of attunement. Not once or twice, but daily, a lifetime. This pathway of business requires all three, breath, body & business be in harmonious coexistence with each other.

I know that curiosity is the key and awareness is the remedy. Instead of getting overwhelmed now, I breathe. I ask questions and then tend to the elements that are calling for my attention. I am the conduit that makes all of this possible and if I don’t learn how to keep all of this healthy then none of it works.
